Hello to all, I know it's been a while so here are some updates...

The website is in full swing now and is going live in the next few weeks after some fine tuning!

The studio is coming along nicely and I've managed to beg, borrow and steal (well not steal but begged and borrowed) some pretty good equipment for it, I will be hosting an opening party at a chosen venue but not so sure where yet, I'll keep you all posted.

I've not put much up of late as it's all going on the website, those of you who know my blog will recognise a few pieces of work. Those that don't, well i've added a selection of images below to whet your appetite.

FASHION:LAB_SHOW_GUIDE//

Phil and I were chosen to brand the FASHION:LAB's end of year show for 09.

We decided to set the art direction off in a clinical lab style using elements of the periodic table and this is the outcome. The design work was utilised for flyers, invites and the 60 page A6 show guide which is pictured.

Here is a style guide for a magazine I'm working on called Feller, It's a parody of a lumberjacks lifestyle magazine paying homage to the check shirt fashions of the late 80's early 90's indie alternative scene.

Fresh from making the finals of the bhive Birmingham pitching to a judging panel made up of McCann Erickson, WAA, Unsuitable, Seal, RBH, Tamba, One Black Bear, Clusta, Freestyle Interactive, Cogent Elliott, Made Media and KLM. The judges were very impressed and here are some samples from the pitch presentation.
The brief was to get Birmingham to be a greener city by 2010.
My response was a campaign led by a company called the Greener Birmingham Initiative and aimed to be as interactive as possible. Containing direct mail shots you are encouraged to rip up and then bury to watch it grow into a plant which you then donate to Birmingham green space.
Posters that grow into trees and campaign slogans that are just damn rude to you. Of course it was all very tongue in cheek and that was the idea from the outset, there are far too many 'serious' save the world campaigns for my liking that just don't have any impact anymore. New project depicting the occupation of Colditz POW camp during WW2. The project is presented as a series of posters that create a timeline. The series is accompanied by an A6 16 page booklet that explains the full timeline in more detail. These prints are also in talks about going up for purchase so do get in touch if you would like to reserve one as a set or individual.

Article Company Identity Re-Brand and Packaging Design//

The client stated that they wanted a 1970's New York feel and wanted to incorporate brown paper grocery bags into the packaging.

The package design uses a fold on the top of the bag that when folded over shows the product name upright, in this case the products are a range of characters called Woogies.

The company has been re-branded for a modern yet retro feel again of 70s/80s New York.

A catalogue of badly taken photographs or as I like to call them “beautiful mistakes”. A matter of fact that these pictures are usually discarded, deleted and lost forever. This publication is a showcase of the beautiful art and abstract forms that these mistakes can produce. A celebration

of their survival and achivement of the photographs main purpose, to be seen.

The zine will be published monthly to coincide and present a showcase of the months best pictures on the blog. The pictures on the blog are submitted by subscribers to the zine and blog.

Here are some stills from an experimental piece of animation I produced. I thought they made nice posters so created these stills. The core theme behind the film are American Football and War. I chose to focus on the comparisons between the 2 themes with defeat, loss, formation and command.

It was done some time in the 40s-60s by the look of it.

Brave New World

Here is a sample screen shot from a book I am just completing Inspired by Aldous Huxley's 'Brave New World'. There is a book for each chapter and the art themes of each book focus on the core themes as explored in the Novel, the books come together in a display case for the final piece. This is a sample image from chapter one and the art direction for this book focuses on the themes of promiscuous sex, other themes include science, human creation, drugs, dystopia and religion. The type has been laid out in an unconventional way to original novels and aims to give feel of an overcrowded degraded dystopian world. Any thoughts?

This is a font produced along the transport theme brief, this is a homage to Harry Becks (or Henry as he is also known) London Underground Map designs. The fonts will be available soon to subscribers of this blog. Let me know what you think.

Transport themed font: Tickets Please.

This brief for this font was to produce a transport themed font, I get the train every single day so this was the obvious choice for me to take advantage of those experiences. I wanted to achieve a handmade organic feeling font and not have a digital vector feel to it. The final font was achieved in photoshop but the shapes were produced by me experimenting and hand folding tickets to achieve legible letterforms, none of the ticket was physically removed and was only cut and folded, this is the outcome.
