Welcome to the world of Von Graff.

This blog has been produced to invite people and offer an insight into my own creative world.
I shall be posting all things that inspire me from day to day be it sight, sound, thought, etc, and inviting you all to share your own views and opinions. I shall be posting pieces of my own work and inviting you all to review and crit it as openly and honestly as you desire, and also share your own work or inspirations with the community on this blog.
All in all this site is aiming to be a creative resource for whoever wishes to be a part of it and hopefully create a small community of creatives who can trust and feed off each others guidance.

Thank you and Welcome,
Von Graff

50/50

Here are some stills from an experimental piece of animation I produced. I thought they made nice posters so created these stills. The core theme behind the film are American Football and War. I chose to focus on the comparisons between the 2 themes with defeat, loss, formation and command.

Sneak Preview

Here is a sneak preview of a new font I am working on, I wanted to create a Serif font and here is the first development stages of design. More to come soon.

Review: Meshes of the Afternoon

Here is a review I did of the film Meshes of the Afternoon, I first seen it at the Tate gallery in London, then again on google video. I am not a movie maker as such but still was really inspired by this piece and its clever use of semiotics and symbology. If you want to know more just click on the poster and read it.

Harry Beck Poster.

Here is a poster I designed to promote my 'Beck' font, it is a quote from Harry Beck regarding his thoughts on the original tube maps before he re-designed them, very apt.

See It, Saw It....

Seen this beautiful example of type painted on an old garage door and couldn't resist it.
It was done some time in the 40s-60s by the look of it.

Brave New World

Here is a sample screen shot from a book I am just completing Inspired by Aldous Huxley's 'Brave New World'. There is a book for each chapter and the art themes of each book focus on the core themes as explored in the Novel, the books come together in a display case for the final piece. This is a sample image from chapter one and the art direction for this book focuses on the themes of promiscuous sex, other themes include science, human creation, drugs, dystopia and religion. The type has been laid out in an unconventional way to original novels and aims to give feel of an overcrowded degraded dystopian world. Any thoughts?

Tasty treat.

Gotta say this is one of the sleekest album covers i've seen in a while, and something a bit different to what you normally expect from the designers republic.
Beatiful use of photography and type.
Click on the post title "tasty treat" to find out more.

Its silk all the way baby......

Hey guys, pretty soon I shall be set up with some screen printing materials, will be able to do up to A3 posters and t shirts so let me know of any ideas you may want to see in the designs.

A Little UrbEx.

Thought I would share this site with you, nothing to do with design but I find some of the locations and photos here have an eerie charm and fascinatingly intriguing.
The space around us is something that always inspires me and these forgotten places appear to be frozen in time and their right under our noses. See what you think anyway

Accept & Proceed by......

This is some work I did that is avilable to see on London design company Accept and Proceeds site, it's part of a live project they held which required you to design them an image based on A&P and it had to be in grayscale. Hybrid Print Campaign.

Here is the promotional book and limited edition posters i designed for the outcome of the Hybrid print campaign Brief. The circular shape on the first poster is an alternative graph I produced to represent the crime rates in this country.

Dirty Lines Animation.

This is the dirty lines animation I produced that was on show at the Plus Design Festival in Birmingham this year. The concept is based upon the lines of communication.
Thanks for watching.

Hybrid Campaign Promotional Animation.

This promotional animation was produced to promote my print campaign for the Hybrid brief project. enjoy

Transport font: Beck

This is a font produced along the transport theme brief, this is a homage to Harry Becks (or Henry as he is also known) London Underground Map designs. The fonts will be available soon to subscribers of this blog. Let me know what you think.

Transport themed font: Tickets Please.

This brief for this font was to produce a transport themed font, I get the train every single day so this was the obvious choice for me to take advantage of those experiences. I wanted to achieve a handmade organic feeling font and not have a digital vector feel to it. The final font was achieved in photoshop but the shapes were produced by me experimenting and hand folding tickets to achieve legible letterforms, none of the ticket was physically removed and was only cut and folded, this is the outcome.

Photos I have taken of views that have inspired me.

All pictures were taken using a Canon 3000N 35mm slr camera with an Ilford HP5 plus black and white film stock.
Hope you enjoy.
